Series 1: Henry Winter Syle correspondence, 1850 - 1889
Scope and Contents
A collection of letters to Henry W. Syle, arranged alphabetically by surname. There is also one file of Syle’s own letters. Syle’s correspondents include many prominent members of the deaf community and deaf educators from the 19th century, including the Rev. Francis J. Clerc (son of Laurent Clerc), Lydia Sigourney, Edward Allen Fay, Edward Miner Gallaudet and Rev. Thomas Gallaudet, John Carlin, Thomas Brown, George W. Veditz, and more. There are also several letters from and to other members of the Syle family.
