The Deaf Way Records

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: MSS246

Scope and Contents

This collection has two main sections. The bulk of the first section is copies of papers and speeches presented at The Deaf Way, along with correspondence between the presenters and the event organizers. This includes the plenary speeches at the event. Also present is correspondence with artistic and cultural performers, with details of their performances. There is a small collection of similar files for presenters and performers who, for various reasons, withdrew or declined.

The second section is given over to records from the planning and execution of the event. This includes minutes from the various committees involved in the planning, extensive correspondence files, budget records, and research materials. Also included are copies of bulletins, programs, and flyers produced during the event; newspaper and magazine clippings from both deaf and hearing media; and event schedules from each day of the festival. The bulk of the correspondence is from or to co-chairperson Carol J. Erting, but there are correspondence files for most of the individuals involved in making The Deaf Way possible.
