The Martin Minter Papers consists of papers related to Martin Minter’s professional career at Gallaudet. Biographical / Historical

Martin Gary Minter was born on January 10, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York. He received his bachelor’s in Physical Education in 1966 from Cortland State College and his master’s degree in 1969 in Physical Education and Special Education from the University of Maryland.

Minter began his involvement with Gallaudet as a part-time Physical Education instructor and dorm counselor. He became a full-time instructor in Physical Education in 1968. He was also known as the baseball coach with the most wins in Gallaudet’s history (1968-1979 and 1981- 1983), and he was the soccer coach. Minter was also the head soccer coach for the USA team for the World Games for the Deaf in 1980 and 1985. He was also one of the key aspects in receiving accreditation for the Recreation major by the National Recreation and Park Association. Also, Minter wrote books concerning sex education and drug abuse. He had a wife, Annie, and two children. Minter passed away prematurely from a heart attack on May 12, 1994.
