Scope and Contents

A series of grant and program proposals written by Deafpride staff, as well as some related budgeting and correspondence. Proposal subjects cover Deafpride’s areas of concern, including ASL and deaf culture classes, drug and alcohol abuse programs, AIDS education, interpreter training, advocacy, and other issues.

Scope and Contents Project Access was one of Deafpride’s major initiatives. Its goal was to improve deaf people’s access to health care by educating them on options and programs available for them. The program also educated health care professionals on how to communicate with deaf patients, as well as teaching interpreters how to function in health care and counseling settings. Scope and Contents Project Communicate was part of Deafpride’s effort to build bridges between the District’s deaf population and its police force, both by enabling deaf people to access public crime prevention programs offered by the police and by providing a forum for the deaf community and the police to discuss each other’s needs and experiences. The Advocate was Deafpride’s newsletter, including articles about the group’s activities as well as general interest articles for the deaf and their parents and friends. This series includes complete issues of the Advocate as well as pasted-up and marked-up preliminary copies.
