Series 4: Correspondence on theater department, 1962 - 1992
Correspondence files from Eastman’s time as chair of the Gallaudet theater department, arranged alphabetically by subject. Bulk is from the mid-1970s through early 1990s. Includes correspondence, clipping files on prominent deaf actors, material on deaf theater, and some dissertations and theses. Of particular interest are correspondence files for Deaf Mosaic (series 5 has more on Deaf Mosaic) and a file on Eastman’s book From Mime to Sign.
Series 5: Other correspondence, 1969 - 2004
A collection of Eastman’s other correspondence, both personal and professional. Unusual items include a large hand-drawn Christmas card and letters from the famous hearing playwrights Arthur Miller and Jean Anouilh about ASL translations of their work. Also includes more correspondence and other material from Deaf Mosaic (see series 4) and some commemorative postcards and envelopes from Gallaudet.
Series 6: Research and clippings, 1957 - 2005
Copied research articles collected by Eastman for his work, as well as newspaper and magazine clippings about him or about subjects he was interested in. Includes some material on Beethoven and historical oralism in Germany he used for a lecture on Beethoven’s deafness, including his notes.
