Abstract

This collection describes the history of the Virginia Association of the Deaf. Included in the collection are correspondence, meeting minutes, financial reports, program books, constitutions and by laws, periodicals, newspaper clippings, and photographs.

Scope and Contents The Walter Goreth Durian Collection consists of partly personal mementos dating from 1885-1954. The majority of the papers date from the 1930s to the 1950s. The bulk of the collection consists of clippings, correspondence, diaries, and rough drafts.In the folder of newspaper clippings, one can find some articles dating from the late 1880s and there is one page from Silent World, issued on June 23, 1892. The Washington Metropolitan Deaf Alliance was an organization that promoted and maintained the welfare of deaf citizens in the Washington Metropolitan area. This collection consists of articles, correspondence, lists, manuscripts, memorandums, minutes, newsletters, proposals, and reports.

Scope and Contents

The Wesley Lauritsen collection consists of five boxes. Majority of the papers involves articles, clippings and letters that Lauritsen wrote. Also, there are information about his times at Gallaudet College and his awards that he received after. Also, there are documents about the organizations that he was involved with. Scrapbooks are also placed in this collection.
