Series 2: Writings, 1953 - 2005

 Series — Multiple Containers

Scope and Contents

Material related to Eastman’s work as a writer of plays, books, articles, and stories, including drafts, scripts, notes, and correspondence on his publications. Of particular interest are a stage sketch and autographs from the cast of his Kennedy Center production of Antigone, scripts for several of Eastman’s plays, and some of his work as a student at ASD and Gallaudet. Another interesting item is a copy of Eugene O’Neill’s play Hughie, marked up with Eastman’s notes for translation into ASL. His student work includes a story, “King Edward’s Secret Wall,” that he won an award for at ASD. Also included are some copied pages from a story called “King Silence,” not written by Eastman, that was first published in a British periodical circa 1918.
